After high school I went to Bates College, graduating
in 1955, and then on to Northwestern University for my MA. I served
in the US Army from 1956 to 1958. While stationed in Germany I met
Barbara who was teaching in the Army school there. I worked for
the CIA for thirty-one years, specializing in African affairs. I
had the good fortune to travel there frequently on business, mainly
to East and southern Africa.
Barbara and I travel to Germany often and visit there with numerous
friends that we have known for many years. In keeping with our great
love of music, we attended the annual Wagner Festival in Bayreuth,
Germany, in August 2001. We will return to Berlin in late March
2002 for the fifth year and attend the annual Spring Music Festival.
In July we will make our annual trip to Tanglewood, stopping, as
usual, in Hopedale and on Cape Cod. We frequently travel to Florida
and California.
My work now is as an usher and stage door attendant in the
Concert Hall of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. My son
Eric, who shares my love for music, is a professional French horn
player with the US Navy Band and is principal horn with two of our
premier local orchestras.
