After receiving a chemical engineering degree from
Yale, I spent four years in the Air Force where my horizons were
limited to Florida and Texas. I became interested in occupational
health, which deals with exposure to chemicals, radiation, noise,
and other hazards in the workplace. I went on to the University
of Michigan for a master's degree in public health in 1962. I worked
at Bethlehem Steel for twenty-four years and in 1986 moved on to
Bellcore, a telecommunications group in Red Bank, New Jersey. While
in New Jersey, I restored the entire interior of my small house
over several years. In 1998 I retired to Clinton, Connecticut, after
marrying Gail, an old flame from my Air Force days in Florida. I
have enjoyed gardening, biking, hiking, camping, rafting, and skiing
and have traveled to parts of the United States, Canada, Mexico,
the lower part of the Amazon River, and Europe.
