| The Hopedale Community, founded by the Reverend Adin Ballou in 1841, gave the town historical importance. His "Dale of Hope" was truly an exercise of social reform and was based on the ideals of Practical Christianity. This, however, was not economically sound, and the community failed in 1856. Hopedale, the town, was incorporated in 1886. | |
